Forthill Primary School– Improving Attendance and Timekeeping
Local Authority Priority
Dundee City Council have a current focus on improving attendance in schools. Schools are expected to review attendance and put measures in place where absences and lateness is a concern. There are council policies and procedures that schools must follow.
Forthill Primary School
At Forthill we review absences and lateness termly. If your child is regularly late or their attendance is below 80% we will contact you to discuss this further. We will discuss reasons for absences and lateness and work together to
improve attendance. Your child’s attendance will be closely monitored and we will arrange a review meeting with you to discuss if there has been an improvement.
Absence Reporting Procedures
If your child is absent:
• This should be reported before 9.30am on the first day of absence via; the ParentPortal, email, in person at school reception or by telephone (if no answer please leave a message).
• If we do not know why your child is absent we will send an attendance text message asking you to call the school. The school incur charges for these text messages, therefore, we would like to send as few as possible. We will continue to send reminder text messages for 3 days. If no contact is made, we will call you to ask why your child is absent.
• Please give details of the reason for your child’s absence so we can record this accordingly.
We understand that your child will be ill and that children will occasionally be late. This is why it is
important that we ensure that we have conversations with families as soon as possible when lateness or
attendance is a becoming more frequent. We appreciate your support with attendance.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you wish to discuss your child’s attendance.
